Alcohol Rehab Program

Overcoming alcohol addiction involves targeted help and support every step of the way. To break free of alcohol addiction and reach a place of sustainable sobriety, it’s important to have medical help as well as emotional support. The withdrawal period associated with alcohol detox can be severe, as those with more serious alcohol addictions can find themselves struggling with withdrawal symptoms like tremors and seizures.

Our alcohol rehab program involves withdrawal management, residential treatment, outpatient care to support the transition back to everyday life, and ongoing support. Clients and their families have access to lifelong support from our addiction treatment specialists. We believe that lasting recovery from alcohol addiction is possible and that it involves a long-term commitment.

Drug Rehab Program

The opioid epidemic has impacted every corner of the United States. Potent opioid pain relievers often used to treat issues like chronic pain are also highly addictive. Some of those who become dependent on prescription opioids will eventually turn to illicit opioids like heroin, which is even more dangerous.

Recovery from opioid addiction can also involve chronic pain management. For some, pain can be a trigger for a return to use. We help our clients learn how to manage pain to make recovery more sustainable.

At Serenity Grove, we can also provide drug addiction treatment for those struggling with an addiction to other substances, such as:

  • Benzodiazepines like Xanax and Valium
  • Stimulants like Adderall and Ritalin
  • Illicit drugs like cocaine and meth

No matter what you or your loved one is facing, our team can help.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Mental health disorders, like depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), commonly co-occur with substance abuse. That is why we offer dual diagnosis treatment at our addiction treatment programs in Georgia.

A dual diagnosis means that you have a co-occurring substance use and mental health disorder. Sometimes, a person develops a substance use disorder due to self-medicating mental health symptoms with drugs and alcohol. On the other hand, long-term substance abuse can alter the way your brain functions and can cause a mental health disorder.

In addition, the risk factors of developing either disorder overlap, for instance, the following are common risk factors of both disorders:

  • Family history of mental health, substance use, or dual-diagnosis disorders
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
  • Traumatic experiences
  • Medical conditions, especially ones that involve chronic pain

Sometimes, a person’s mental health symptoms don’t surface until they begin addiction treatment and quit using or drinking. This is because the effects of drugs and alcohol may mask their symptoms. It’s important to look for a treatment center that also provides mental health services for this reason.

At our dual diagnosis treatment center, we treat many of the mental health disorders that commonly co-occur with addiction, including the following:

At our addiction treatment programs, we address both conditions at the same time. This leads to the best treatment outcomes for dual-diagnosis disorders.

Our Approach to Addiction Treatment

We offer a variety of therapies to help those struggling with substance use disorders. Through both group and individual sessions, clients work through the underlying causes of addiction and build the healthy coping skills needed for lasting recovery. Every client’s needs are unique—some need treatment for anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder, while others need support for PTSD or anger issues.

Some of the therapies we offer at Serenity Grove include:

  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT is among the most common therapeutic modalities practiced in behavioral health. This type of therapy addresses several types of disorders by challenging unhelpful thoughts and beliefs. By changing unhelpful thoughts and beliefs, you can improve your mood, behaviors, and emotional wellness.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): This therapeutic modality was originally developed to treat symptoms of borderline personality disorder (BPD). However, it has been proven helpful for several types of mental disorders as well as addiction. DBT is especially helpful for people struggling with emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and significant challenges building healthy relationships.
  • Anger Management: Anger is a powerful emotion that can get the best of anyone when they don’t know how to manage it. Since anger can be a driving force fueling poor mental health and addiction, we offer anger management at our Georgia addiction treatment programs.
  • Life Skills Training: Oftentimes, people with behavioral health disorders also have a deficit in the skills they need to get their lives back on track. This is because dealing with an addiction or mental health symptoms can impact your ability to maintain employment, stable housing, or healthy lifestyle habits. Our life skills training will help you gain the skills you need to thrive in recovery.
  • Group Therapy: One of the cornerstones of addiction and dual diagnosis treatment is the gift of peer support. Your experiences can often leave you feeling alone amongst those who don’t struggle with addiction or mental health disorders. Group therapy sessions provide the opportunity to connect with peers as you recover together.
  • Family Counseling: Addiction and mental health disorders impact the entire family. That is why we provide family counseling during our treatment programs in Georgia. As a result, you and your family can rebuild relationships and develop healthy conflict resolution skills.
  • Psychotherapy: Individual therapy sessions are vital to recovery from addiction and dual-diagnosis disorders. During psychotherapy, you’ll meet with a therapist for one-on-one sessions. These sessions will help you understand your disorder in order to develop healthy coping skills for stressors and other triggers.
  • Trauma Treatment: It’s no secret that traumatic experiences are common among those with behavioral health disorders like addiction. Our trauma treatment program will help you heal from the past so you can focus on the future.
  • Meditative Therapy: Mindfulness and meditation practices are tools that you can use in everyday life to manage stress and relapse triggers. Our meditative therapy takes it a step further by incorporating these practices into your treatment program.
  • Yoga Therapy: Yoga is a holistic health approach that people have practiced for thousands of years. This practice provides many benefits for a person’s mental and physical well-being. As an enhancement to traditional therapy, yoga can teach you how to reduce stress and engage in mindfulness.
  • Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT): Combining FDA-approved medications with behavioral therapy to treat opioid and alcohol use disorders is known as medication-assisted treatment (MAT). Medications prescribed during MAT can reduce cravings and lower the risk of relapse.

At Serenity Grove, we offer the following medications for MAT:

  • Psychiatry: Prescription medications for mental health disorders can relieve the severity of your symptoms. Our psychiatrists will help you find the right medication and dosage. Psychiatric medications, such as antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and antidepressants, combined with psychotherapy is the most common approach to treat most mental health disorders.

We’ll help you heal in every aspect of your life. When you reach out to our experienced team, we’ll begin designing a substance abuse treatment program that can help you become your healthiest self.

Georgia Substance Abuse Statistics

According to the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH), emergency department (ED) visits due to drug overdoses breaks down as follows:

  • In December 2024, 1,398 people went to the ED for drug overdoses (this is a decrease compared to 1,772 in December 2023)
  • In addition, when compared to December of 2023, the number of fentanyl-involved overdoses decreased by 21.1% in December of 2024

However, despite the decrease in trends, these numbers are still alarming, since addiction is a treatable condition.

Regarding alcohol abuse, the National Center for Drug Abuse Statistics (NCDAS) reports that:

  • “15.1% of Georgia adults over 18 binge drink at least once per month.”
  • “An average of 3,953 annual deaths in Georgia are attributable to excessive alcohol use.”

At Serenity Grove, we hope to reach out to those struggling with addiction to prevent unnecessary overdoses, deaths, and other negative consequences.
