Tommie L. (Larry) Walton, III
Tommie L. “Larry” Walton, III is a behavioral health professional and training consultant. Larry’s extensive experience in recovery, addiction treatment, and personal development make him a valuable asset to the team at Serenity Grove.
Larry earned an Associate’s in Science degree from Gainesville State in 1966. He then studied at the University of Georgia Graduate School, earning a Master’s in Clinical Social Work in 1974.
Throughout Larry’s career, he’s been a clinician, program director, instructor, and coordinator. Now, Larry uses his skills and knowledge to train others in the field of behavioral health as a training consultant.
Larry strongly believes that behavioral health professionals must adapt to changes in psychotherapy and addiction treatment. That way, clinicians and support staff can provide the best service to their clients. Thus, he advocates for professional development and continuing education for several treatment facilities in Georgia.
Larry also believes in a humane approach to addiction and dual-diagnosis treatment. In the 1990s, he was an early endorser of harm-reduction strategies—seeing this approach as a more effective and empathetic pathway to recovery.
In his free time, Larry enjoys training, breeding, and competing with Catahoula Leopard Dogs.
